Self-assessment process stalled in Silchar

Amid series of protests by civil society of Silchar, the much debated self assessment and Reassessment of Property Tax had been kept in abeyance by Urban Affairs Department.

SILCHAR : Amid series of protests by civil society of Silchar, the much debated self assessment and Reassessment of Property Tax had been kept in abeyance by Urban Affairs Department. The order, issued on Monday evening, said, "Subsequent to the enactment of Assam Municipal Corporation Act 2022, the process of constitution of Silchar Municipal Corporation is under process with revision in boundaries. Hence the process of Reassessment of Property Tax in Silchar Municipal Board is kept in abeyance till the creation of the new Municipal Corporation."

Nagarik Adhikar Suraksha Mancha, the forum of various civil society bodies, hailed the government decision as they said, it was their moral victory. On the other hand Silchar MLA Deepayan Chakraborty said, he had in a letter conveyed the reservations of the local people to the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who had forwarded the letter to the Minister,
