SILCHAR: Sushmita Dev, the chief of All India Mahila Congress, has changed her Twitter bio, which now reads former Member of Indian National Congress and Mahila Congress.
The change in her Twitter bio to "former Member of Indian National Congress and Mahila Congress" was the first clue that she had quit Congress.
"I cherish my three-decade-long association with the Indian National Congress. May I take this opportunity to thank the party, all its leaders, members, and workers who have been my memorable journey. Madam, I thank you personally for your guidance and the opportunities you gave me. I value the enriching experience," Sushmita Dev said in her letter to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
According to reports, Sushmita Dev, who headed the Congress's women's wing, the All India Mahila Congress, is likely to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee in Kolkata on Monday.
Sushmita Dev is the daughter of Assam Congress stalwart and influential Bengali leader Santosh Mohan Dev. Sushmita Dev had earlier been elected MP from the Silchar seat, which had been the stronghold of her father.
This is a developing story.
