Senior citizen Nazifur Rahman passes away in Doomdooma

Nazifur Rahman (Mukut), former office assistant of Doomdooma Girls’ High School and a resident of Main Road, died at Tinsukia Civil Hospital on June 10 due to old-age ailment.

DOOMDOOMA: Nazifur Rahman (Mukut), former office assistant of Doomdooma Girls' High School and a resident of Main Road, died at Tinsukia Civil Hospital on June 10 due to old-age ailment. He had tested COVID positive when he was admitted in the hospital but was subsequently tested negative. He was 79 and is survived by two sons. His janaza was performed at Doomdooma Kabarstan by observing COVID protocol.

Nazifur Rahman was born in a sports family of Doomdooma and he himself was a sports lover right from his school days. His two brothers - Muhibur Rahman (Saru Kaiti) and Rose Rahman - were famous footballers of the yesteryears. Similarly, another brother, Matiur Rahman and elder sister Hasna Begum were former assistant teachers of Hoonlal HS School and Doomdooma Girls' High School respectively.

Doomdooma, which inherits the British legacy in the field of sports, saw this legacy being carried forward in the post-Independence period by some of the prominent sports lover families of this prominent industrial town. Nazifur Rahman's family was one such family. Interestingly, writer Nirode Chaudhury had started a novel on the life of Muhibur Rahman, popularly known as Saru kaiti, but could not finish it due to his untimely demise.

Nazifur Rahman's demise cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by various organizations and individuals, including Doomdooma Girls' High School, Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Sports Association (DSA), Doomdooma Sanmilita Samaj, among others.
