Setback for Congress: Many Congress workers join BJP at Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: In a major setback to the Congress, most of the more than 500 people that joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday at Doomdooma Town Field in presence of BJP State president Bhabesh Kalita, were from the Congress.

Doomdooma MLA Rupesh Gowala claimed that 95 per cent of those who joined the BJP were Congress workers. The president, councillor and all ward members of Daisa Gaon Panchayat (GP), which was the only GP under Congress dominion in Doomdooma Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), joined the BJP along with many former GP presidents, councillors and ward members of the Congress party.

Besides them, several booth, mandal and block-level leaders and workers of the Congress party also joined the BJP, Gowala added. The ceremony was also attended by State Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, State BJP secretary Pulak Gohain, BJP Tinsukia district president Kushakanta Borah and others.
