Dibrugarh, Sept 19: The book release ceremony of Xuworonir Rangin Paat, authored by Shanti Gogoi, noted social worker and wife of former Chief Minister of Assam, Keshav Chandra Gogoi, was recently held in Dibrugarh. The importance of the occasion was elevated by the presence of her son, Justice Ranjan Gogoi, who is soon going to succeed Justice Dipak Misra as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). The event was also graced by a host of other dignitaries, including the former president of Axam Xahitya Sabha, Nagen Saikia; former Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain and retired Professor of Neurology at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Narayan Upadhyaya.
In her speech, Gogoi sketched the outline of her autobiography and thanked everyone for their support and love. Addressing a packed hall, Dr Nagen Saikia maintained that the book would find a place among the best of literary works. He said that unlike a typical autobiography, Gogoi, in her book, had put forth a balanced and honest account of her journey and experiences. The book was devoid of any exaggerations and pretensions, he observed.
Dr Saikia, on the occasion, also presented his book titled Axomiya Manuh’r Itihaakh (History of Assamese people) to Justice Ranjan Gogoi as a token of appreciation for the latter’s outstanding achievement.
Speaking at the event, Professor Alak Kumar Buragohain reiterated some of Dr Saikia’s views and praised the book as well as the author. He mentioned that his relationship with the author was decades old. Dr. Upadhyaya too, in his address, spoke highly of Gogoi as a woman, wife and mother. He recounted how her determination, grit and sense of sacrifice had led to all her children excelling in their personal and professional lives today.
