Shilpi Divas State programme to be held today

The State Shilpi Divas programme will be held at Samannay Kshetra in Golaghat on January 17. CM Sarbananda Sonowal will be present at the event

GOLAGHAT, Jan 16: Under the aegis of Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Government of Assam, in collaboration with Golaghat district administration, this year's Shilpi Divas State programme will be held at Samannay Kshetra in Golaghat on Sunday.

This was stated in a press conference at the conference hall of DC's office in Golaghat on Saturday. The press conference was attended jointly by Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat, Bivash Chandra Modi and Director of Cultural Affairs, Jadav Saikia. The DC stated that the district administration had made all the arrangements to conduct the ceremony at Samannay Kshetra in Golaghat where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would be present as chief guest.

Also, Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Jorhat MP Tapan Gogoi along with all the MLAs of Golaghat district would be present in the programme. Cultural Affairs Director Jadav Saikia said that this year, the Shilpi Award of the State Government would be conferred to two eminent personalities for their contributions in the field of art and culture. This year the award will be given to Indeswar Pegu, who is a well-known Mising folk artist. Another veteran artist and singer, Namita Bhattacharya will also be awarded.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will confer the awards. The award consists of Rs 2 lakh, a felicitation letter and an angavastra.
