Shishu Sarothi to Organise Covid Vaccination Camp for Disabled People in Guwahati on Saturday

Many people with disabilities have approached the organisation for assistance to get vaccinated, as they have faced immense problems in scheduling appointments through the government portals

Guwahati: A special vaccination camp will be held for disabled people, which is being organised by Shishu Sarothi at Birubari, Guwahati on Saturday (May 29).

Since immunization of people in the 18 - 44 age group opened up on May 7, many people with disabilities have approached the organisation for assistance to get vaccinated, as they have faced immense problems in scheduling appointments through the government portals.

Shishu Sarothi approached the Office of the Director of Health Services for facilitating the same, and the said that immunisation drive is expected to provide vaccines to around 150 persons with disabilities, their families, and caregivers.

They have also approached the government with a request to take necessary measures that may ease the vaccination process for people with disabilities (PwDs) across the state, providing option for door-step vaccination for PwDs with high support needs, who do not have the means to go to the vaccination centres; wide dissemination of all relevant SOPs that allow relaxations, facilities, and prioritisation for vaccination of people with disabilities.

Shishu Sarothi is a leading not-for-profit organisation working with a proven track record in the area of early intervention and rehabilitation, education, livelihoods, advocacy and awareness as well as protection of rights and legal aid for children and persons with disabilities in North East India. Established in 1987, the organisation works with children with disability where they campaign for a better world.

Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that said 5 lakh people have already been vaccinated in Guwahati and after India crossed the 20-crore vaccination mark in 130 days, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that more than 22 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs and about 1.84 crore doses were still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
