Guwahati: A candidate of the Assam Police Sub-Inspector exams who has been arrested for 'leaking' the question paper, claims that he paid a sum of Rs. 5 lakh to the absconding former DIG PK Dutta, who is suspected to be the leader of the ring behind the alleged 'job scam.'

Hirakjyoti Baruah, one of the accused in the leaking of the paper that led to the cancellation of the examination, claims that he had paid Rs. 5 lakh as a bribe to the absconding former DIG to secure the job. Baruah was one of the candidates for the exam, and was cornered by the CID once the investigation into the paper leak began. Baruah was arrested in Kherani while he was en route from Karbi Anglong to Nagaon.

As per reports in the media, Hirak has confessed said that he had leaked the question papers through WhatsApp. He further claims that a sum of Rs. 5 lakh was paid to the former DIG through one of his relatives.

As per reports, CID and Crime Branch personnel have raided Dutta's residence in Guwahati's Hengerabari, and recovered the candidate's admit card.

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowala has urged the Director-General of Police to bring the culprits to book. Sonowal, in his recent media interactions, has promised that action will be taken against each and every person.

Yesterday, Sonowal said that the Assam police has been relentless in its efforts to apprehend all the culprits who are involved in the nexus that conspired to spoil the SI recruitment process.

Sonowal also said that the State government's fight against corruption would continue unhindered. The Chief Minister further informed that the chairman of the State Level Police Recruitment Board had already been directed to conduct re-examination for the posts within a month.
