Nalbari: Kamal Hazarika, the BJP leader of Dharampur was released after being interrogated by the police. Detained earlier today, Hazarika was held up by Nalbari Police on being involved with the infamous SI recruitment scam.

However, after questioning, the investigation team let him go as he had no connection to the case, and was wrongly detained.

Hazarika is said to be a close confidant of senior BJP leader and Assam Transport Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary. Speaking about being "wrongly detained," Kamal Hazarika said, "Belsore Police Station CI told me that I am linked with Assam Police SI recruitment scam. So I came to Nalbari Police Station. Later in the morning, they told me that it was a mistake." The police wrongly picked him as there was some confusion with his name, he added.

Hazarika has asked the police to conduct the investigations properly as an incident like this will affect his image, and defame his name.

Quite a number of people involved in the SI exam scam has been arrested by the police, including the mastermind of the paper leak scam, former DIG P K Dutta, and BJP leader Diban Deka. Both of them have been sent for 14-day judicial custody.
