Dutta, who served from 1992-2019 in the Assam Police, seems to have amassed a lot of wealth during his tenure as a top cop in the state. The information about the extent of his absurd amount of wealth came to the fore during the primary investigation of the registered FIR, 10/2020 by the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Interestingly, the properties are registered under his relatives. According to the FIR, a total of Rs. 79 crores worth of properties are registered in his the names of Swapnashree Dutta (wife), Banamuri Dutta (daughter), and Abhinandan Kakati's (sister's husband).

The three family members of PK Dutta have companies registered as M/S Mahamaya Estate Private Limited, M/S Muraricommodities Private Limited, and Ishan Commercial Private Limited.

Apart from being the prime accused in the cash-for-jobs scam, Dutta's name has also been linked to other illegal activities such as land encroachments, etc.

Dutta, who was on the run after his name came up in the recruitment scam, was arrested from the Kakarbhitta area along the Indo-Nepal border. On October 13, a court in Guwahati sent Dutta to 14-days judicial custody.
