MORIGAON: "We are committed to enforcing strict population control law and gaining the support of all. Population explosion means collapse of country, race, land and homeland," said members of Jansankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF) while talking about the signature campaign undertaken by JSF at the historic Jonbeel Mela in Morigaon district.

The members of the JSF Morigaon district unit took out an awareness drive against the rising population explosion and the need for a population control law. They also carried out a mass signature drive during the three-day Jonbeel Mela, stated a press release.

The members of JSF Morigaon Unit raised awareness among the people who came to the fair on this occasion. "The signature campaign is aimed at shaping public opinion for the enactment of the Population Control Act and the plan is to send the signatures to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," said Sailendra Pandey, chairman of JSF NE.

"Transforming the two-child rule into law will be able to stem the tide of population explosion which is one of the burning problems in the country. The demand for the population law is not against any race-religion-caste-language. Moreover, it is only through the signature of the people that the government can apply for the enactment of this law," added Pandey. He further urged all the communities of Assam to come forward and extend all possible help to bring a strict population control act.

Notably, on the first day of the fair, office bearer of the three-day Jonbeel Mela Management Committee, Jorching Bordoloi inaugurated the office of the signature campaign. Speaking at the occasion, Jorching Bordoloi, while supporting the JSF's initiative, urged upon the Government of India for the enactment of a strict population control law at the earliest
