‘Sikhyakota: Utchorpora Mohonaloi’ Released at Doomdooma Press Club

DOOMDOOMA: A rare instance of devotion towards a father was witnessed in a book release function held at Doomdooma Press Club on Sunday when a book titled ‘Sikhyakota: Utchorpora Mohonaloi' (The profession of a teacher: from source to confluence) written by octogenarian Prafulla Borkakoti was released by eminent poet Sarifa Khatun Chaudhury. The book has been transcribed by Mintu Saikia as told to him by Prafulla Borkakoti, a former headmaster and social organiser, about various aspects of his social life since birth and about many decades-long events taking place in Tinsukia district from cultural, social, and geographical viewpoints. The book has been published by his eldest son, Prasanta Borkakoti, who laid down his charge as Chief Resident Executive (CRE) of Oil India Limited (OIL), Duliajan, on May 31 in pursuance of advice given to him by his friends to publish the book during his lifetime. The book release function was presided over by Journalist Arjun Baruah, former President Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha, and was attended by Chairperson, Doomdooma Municipal Board, Kanta Bhattacharya, leading citizens, members of the Doomdooma Press Club, and the family members of Prafulla Borkakoti. In the beginning, Borkakoti's eldest son, Prasanta Borkakoti, welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering about his desire to publish the book during the lifetime of his father, who made his mark as a distinguished teacher and was a strict disciplinarian, a truly devoted person to his occupation, and a loving father above all.
