GUWAHATI: In yet another sensational incident in Assam's Guwahati city, a man hailing from Silchar town of lower Assam was allegedly robbed by some miscreants at the gunpoint.

The robbery incident took place on Monday 21 February in the Mangaldai Sarkar Chowk area of Guwahati.

According to the sources, the man from Silchar came to Guwahati to purchase about 30 tons of rods from the two accused fraudsters.

The victim has been identified as Sanjay Biswas who visited Guwahati for a rod deal.

As per reports, the two robbers allegedly forced Biswas to enter into a vehicle and then the duo took him to an area near Mangaldai Sarkar Chowk.

In the Mangaldai Sarkar Chowk area, they stopped the car and robbed Rupees 20 lakh from the man's possessions putting him at the gunpoint. After looting the huge amount of money, the accused duo had released Biswas.

However, the victim has later registered a complaint against the two thefts at Gorchuk Police Station located in Guwahati.

The two people who robbed the man are identified as Sakib and Jiban, both residents of Guwahati.

Meanwhile, the police officials have initiated an investigation about the matter.

As per the initial inquiry, it came to light that the 2 people robbing Biswas at gunpoint had claimed to reduce the price of the rod from Rupees 500 to Rupees 100 per quintal.

This alleged agreement of rod had led the victim to come all the way to Guwahati from Silchar therefore it was learned that he was robbed on the pretext of selling rods.

It may be mentioned that such incidents of robbery are repeatedly occurring in different parts of the Guwahati metropolis.

Earlier in a similar incident that occurred a few days ago, a woman was allegedly robbed of Rupees 5 lakh by two bike-borne miscreants in the Patharquarry area of Guwahati. Reportedly the woman identified as Jaya Rajkhowa was returning home after a bank withdrawal.
