'Silchar Medical College and Hospital ready to combat fourth Covid 19 wave'

SILCHAR: Apprehending fourth wave of Covid 19 in next March-April in Barak Valley, Dr Babul Bezbaruah, principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital said, this premier health institution in the entire south Assam is fully prepared to face any eventuality. As directed by the Union Health Ministry, a mock drill was held to gauge the preparedness of the health sector including the private hospitals in Cachar on Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha, Dr Bezbaruah along with other health officials inspected the infrastructure in SMCH to combat any sudden surge of Covid infection. Later Jha said, the SMCH is fully equipped with ICU as well as general bed for Covid wards and fully operational oxygen plants. Doctors and other health workers are trained and experienced enough to treat Covid patients as they had already faced three episodes of the pandemic.

Dr Bezbaruah said, mass awareness was the most essential factor to face the deadly virus. People should start wearing masks, maintain physical distance in crowded places and use sanitizer frequently, he advised. He further added that those who had not yet taken the booster dose should immediately complete the circle of immunisation.

Apart from SMCH, Silchar Civil Hospital was also gearing up to make its Covid ward functional. Dr Alakananda Nath, Super of Civil Hospital informed that five ICU beds and 10 beds in isolation ward were being readied. District health officials on Tuesday visited 7 model hospitals, 31 primary health centres as well as 10 private hospitals to see the preparation.
