SILCHAR: Trinamool Congress would contest in as many as possible wards in the forthcoming election of the proposed Silchar Municipality Corporation, stated the party's Rajya Sabha MP Susmita Dev. Speaking with the mediapersons here on Tuesday, Dev, who represented Silchar both in Assam Assembly as well as Lok Sabha, said she would prefer fresh faces in the fray. Admitting that TMC is a minuscule party here in Cachar so far as organisational strength is concerned, Dev, who left Congress last year, said, people desperately needed an alternative and only TMC could fit the bill. Congress had no chance to revive, maintaining this Susmita said, she had already started public relation drive though in a low scale manner. Susmita was given the additional charge of the Tripura unit of TMC by party supremo Mamata Banerjee as the state would go for Assembly election next year. Susmita said, from now onwards she would reschedule her tour programme so that she could spend considerable time here in Silchar.

Susmita, who began her political journey from Silchar Municipality Board, said it was completely a blunder the current public representatives Dr. Rajdeep Roy and MLA Dipayan Chakraborty had committed as they failed to get the election for the municipality board done first like Dibrugarh which too would be converted to a corporation. As there was no elected body in Silchar Municipality Corporation, no specific development scheme could be taken up. After the recent deluge, the town needed many renovation works, but the authority had shown no sign of interest to do so.

Susmita said, TMC high command was enthusiastic about the civic body poll in Silchar. Since Congress has lost its all relevance, TMC had the bright chance of becoming the alternative to the BJP, she added.
