SIT to be formed to investigate police activities, CID to handle scribe's case: ADGP

DHUBRI: Dhubri Journalists' Association strongly condemned the arrest of its general secretary, Rajib Sarmah and demanded an inquiry into the whole episode of corruption in the forest department by Dhubri Divisional Forest Officer, Biswajit Roy as reported by Rajib Sarmah in recent days.

As demanded by the association, Additional DGP ( Law and Order ), GP Singh who visited at the instance of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, told media persons that SIT would be formed to review and investigate the works of police during the last two years and the case of Rajib Sarmah filed by the DFO would be handed over to CID for investigation.

"We welcome the decision of the police and expect proper and impartial investigation into the case," a senior member of the association, Jyotirmoy Chakraborty said.

Singh during his visit to Dhubri, spent hours together in the Dhubri Police Station and studied pros and cons of the case filed by DFO. Singh along with Dhubri Superintendent of Police, Yuvraj Kumar met Rajib Sarmah at his Gauripur residence on Friday and condoled the demise of his father and assured him a proper enquiry into his case.

Rajib Sarmah was arrested on the basis of FIR lodged by Dhubri DFO, Biswajit Ray alleging that he had demanded money from him. Sarmah was booked under non-bailable sections but due to sudden demise of his father, he was granted an interim bail of three days to perform the last rites of his father on Thursday.
