Sivasagar district administration cancelled Public gatherings, events

SIVASAGAR: As a precautionary measure to keep coronavirus at bay, the Sivasagar district administration has cancelled all public meetings, events, naam kirtan, bhaona and Gita Path and other programmes to reduce mass gatherings across the district with immediate effect. An order was issued to this effect by Additional District Magistrate, Sivasagar on Sunday. The ban came into force with immediate effect and will remain until further order. The action was taken as per the directive of the Chief Secretary, Government of Assam in this regard.

On the other hand, sensation triggered in the district on Sunday when a youth from Mechgaon of Naojan in Sivasagar who had been working in Kerala for the last six years, returned home after the coronavirus outbreak in Kerela.

As soon as he arrived at Simaluguri Railway Station, rumours spread like wild fire that he was inflicted with the deadly coronavirus. A team of medical experts rushed to the Simaluguri Railway Station and took the youth in their custody. He was brought to Sivasagar Civil Hospital in a special ambulance and kept in the isolation ward prepared to quarantine coronavirus patients.

However, the Superintendent of the Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Dr Rajib Baruah confirmed that the youth has tested negative of coronavirus. He was later allowed to go home. However, the District Health department officials will monitor his health for the next 14 days, Dr Baruah informed.

In the meantime, the district administration is closely monitoring the situation with the health authorities and has taken a slew of measures, including opening of an isolation ward at the civil hospital and formation of a rapid response team to prevent spread of the pandemic that has created ripples across the globe.
