DIBRUGARH: Six people were killed and two injured in a major road mishap that took place at Lepetkata near BCPL complex on National Highway 37 in the wee hours of Thursday.
Five of the deceased were identified as KonpaiBhuyan, Hem Bora, Madan Bora, JibanSaikia and PrakashJyoti Das, the driver of the car. Three critically injured persons were rushed to Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMC&H) where one of the injured, Deva Bora succumbed to his injury, raising the death toll to six. The other critically injured are undergoing specialized treatment at AMC&H.
Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowalcondoled the death of all and while expressing serious concern over the condition of injured persons, asked the district authority to extend all possible help and care in their treatment.
According to sources, all the victims were residents of Bhogamur village under KotuhaPanchayat in Dibrugarh district and were returning to Dibrugarh after attending the marriage of PranjalBhuyan of Bhogamur, held at DhanaguriKalita village in Dhemaji district. Sources further stated that the driver of the Bolero car bearing registration no AS06 R8647, in which they were returning from Dhemaji, lost control and collided with a heavy crane parked on the roadside.
