Six National Liberation Front of Boroland cadres surrender in Sonitpur district

A total of six cadres of the National Liberation Front of Boroland (NLFB) on Wednesday surrendered with weapons and ammunition in Sonitpur district.

TEZPUR: A total of six cadres of the National Liberation Front of Boroland (NLFB) on Wednesday surrendered with weapons and ammunition in Sonitpur district.

The surrendered militants were identified as Geolang Basumatary, Tarun Basumatary, Jishoya Basumatary, Gibiyan Basumatary, Bidai Narzary and Alson Basumatary. They deposited five weapons including one AK-56 rifle with one magazine and 146 ammunition, two hand-made guns, two 9mm and 7.62mm pistols with two bullets, two grenades, two knives and seven mobile phones, Dr Dhananjya Ghanawat, Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, said.

The SP further said that a group of about 12 militants was hiding in Chariduar area, out of them two were injured in a police encounter, while another was arrested at 12 mile area near Bhalukpong under Chariduar Police station in Sonitpur district on April 1. SP Ghanawat urged them to return to the mainstream at the earliest. The whole operation was carried out under the supervision of Dr Dhananjay Ghanawat and Additional SP (Headquarters) Madhurima Das.
