Smugglers with 2,000 Yaba tablets arrested in Silchar

Lakhipur sub division of Cachar being strategically located on Manipur border has become a favourite route of drug and narcotic mafia and peddlers.

SILCHAR: Lakhipur sub division of Cachar being strategically located on Manipur border has become a favourite route of drug and narcotic mafia and peddlers. Once they succeed in evading the security surveillance, their smuggled contraband goods from Myanmar via Manipur are then taken to potential points for sell out. Their prime target is youths and students. But ever since the call of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take tough measures to break the backbone of smugglers, police administration is no more resting on its laurels, but continues its operation against them.

On Monday, after being fed by a source, a team of police personnel led by SDPO Lakhipur joined by OC Jirighat and Silchar police station staff arrested two smugglers at Bagpur part 1. They have been identified as Akbar Hussain Laskar and Abidur Rahman Laskar. From their possession, 2000 yaba tablets have been recovered. After interrogation, legal action has been initiated against them. One of them hails from Neairgram village near Silchar and the other from Bagpur Part 1.
