DHUBRI: Memorandums were submitted to Dhubri MP, Badruddin Ajmal by social activists of Dhubri led by Simul Sarkar and Rahul Shah at his residence on Jakir Hussain Road here recently.
Memorandums demanded MP to take initiative for reopening of Wimco, construction of Harijan colony on Garikhana Road of Dhubri town, raising the level of Netaji str Road with reconstruction of load bearing drain on both side, and construction of dilapidated G.T.B Road (Dhubri-Gauripur Road).
Wimco, a lone industrial identity of Western Assam till BRPL in Bongaigaon in 70s , has been lying closed since 1996, and this has closed all the doors of industrialization despite it was purchased by ITC in 2001, memorandum stated. It also regretted on the fact that the colony of a community referred as Harijan in honour was also in extremely dilapidated condition, which needed to be constructed immediately.
Further, water logging on Netaji Subhas Road at the moderate down pour causing artificial flood since last so many years due to clogging of drains and outlets, so this road should also be reconstructed by raising the level of roads with load bearing drains and GTB Road at several places developed huge potholes which to be filled and reconstructed, memorandum.
Talking to The Sentinel, a social activist, Simul Sarkar informed that Dhubri MP, Badruddin Ajmal read all the memorandums and heard the grievances of the people and assured to take appropriate action from his end soon.
