DONKAMUKAM: Adhering to social distancing norm seems to be quite a challenging task during the ongoing lockdown. Despite constant reminders, people crowd to purchase essential commodities in grocery shops, visit rural banks or while distributing ration to BPL families. This has raised concern among the conscious circle, especially in West Karbi Anglong.
Sources said that hundreds of people gathered to avail the PM Garib Kalyan Scheme or to receive ration distributed by the government without following the social distancing norms. Though the region remains free from the pandemic so far, such crowding of people can have dangerous consequences.
Few days back people had crowded in Assam Gramin Vikas Bank and police had to be called in to control the situation. "In banks also hundreds gather to avail schemes and 2-3 police personnel cannot control the crowd," said a local person. On Sunday, 548 families received 10 kg rice and masks at Satgaon in West Karbi Anglong but without maintaining social distancing.
