Numaligarh: Various social organizations and many people of the Numaligarh-Morangi area spontaneously opposed the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill by demonstrating protest in various ways. Public places like Rangajan, Morangi, Doigrung, Purbangla, Bokakhat across the area have witnessed massive protest demonstration like road blockade, cycle rally, fire-torchlight march, and sit-in protests by social organizations like AASU, AJYCP, Oikya Sena Asom, AASA, ATSA etc since last seven days.
Morangi AASU unit took out a cycle rally in Morangi-Doigrung area recently opposing the CAB. Hundreds of AASU activists were seen participating in the cycle rally, raising slogans against the CAB and the government. They also protested in Doigrung area citing their dissatisfaction over government’s decision over bringing the controversial Bill. The protesters also raised slogans against PM Modi, CM Sonowal and Assam minister Atul Bora.
The AJYCP also staged protest and blocked the NH-37 near Bokakhat on Thursday evening. Protesters seemed standing on the highway, holding fire torchlights in their hands. The highway traffic halted at NH-37 for almost an hour amidst the protest. AJYCP protesters also spoke against the CAB and made clear statements that they will not support CAB at any cost and will continue to raise their voice against it. On the other hand, The Bokakhat block Congress also staged dharna. Congress members also made clear statements that they have been opposing the Bill and will continue to do so.
