SOFEC celebrates its foundation day at DHSK College

DIBRUGARH: The Society for Environmental Conservation (SOFEC) at DHSK College commemorated two decades of its commendable journey on Saturday. Established on August 12, 2002, the organization’s foundation day was celebrated with a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness.

The highlight of the celebration was the ceremonial planting of tree saplings within the college campus. This symbolic gesture underlines SOFEC’s unwavering commitment to nurturing the environment. In line with its long-standing tradition, the society’s members extended their outreach efforts to Nandeswar Chakrabarty High School at P.N. Road, Dibrugarh where they engaged in an awareness campaign, a practice integral to SOFEC since its inception.

With Dr. Sikhamoni Sharma, a recently retired professor of DHSK College, as resource person, the SOFEC team comprised of esteemed educators, including Dr. Lamkholal Doungel, Head of the Department of Political Science and a founding member of the society, Dr. N. Pegu, Society Secretary, and Dr. Nitumoni Saikia, Dr. Anisha Dutta, and Debaru Bhuyan, all esteemed executive members.

Bandana Konwar, the Headmistress of N.C. High School, warmly welcomed the SOFEC members on this momentous occasion. She expressed her heartfelt gratitude for their presence and applauded their dedication to raising environmental consciousness. The event garnered significant participation from both teachers and students of the school. The interaction between the students and the resource persons was a key highlight of the programme. This exchange of ideas and insights empowered the students with a deeper understanding of environmental issues and conservation efforts.
