Tezpur: The Sonitpur district administration held a preparatory meeting with various Durga Puja committees, in the presence of police and officials of various line departments on Wednesday.
In order to ensure a smooth and peaceful conduct of the upcoming Puja festivities, the district administration appealed to the puja committees to install security cameras in locations where it was expected to see a large turnout of devotees. The Puja committees were also asked to take appropriate measures and keep adequate provisions to tackle fires and other such emergencies.
The district administration also asked the Puja committees to follow all the instructions as laid down by the administration for peaceful conduct of the upcoming festivities. The Puja committees were directed to apply for necessary permission before September 20 and deploy sufficient numbers of volunteers at each venue and submit the list of names of volunteers to the nearest police station for verification and necessary clearance, and were asked to make separate entry and exit routes for male and female devotees in order to hold the festivities in a disciplined manner.
The Deputy Commissioner asked the Puja committees to adopt an eco-friendly approach to the Puja without causing any harm to the environment and asked the Puja committees to cooperate with the municipality board members to keep the puja mandap surroundings clean and hygienic. The administration asked the committees to ensure that the idols used for the puja did not hurt the religious sentiments of the people. Moreover, they were also asked to ensure quality check of the prasad and other food served to the devotees during the days of the Durga Puja festivities.
Additional SP Numal Mahatta said the police administration would step up security measures across the district to ensure peaceful celebration of the ensuing Durga Puja and informed that a police control room number at 70869-93898 will be made operational for the public during Puja.
