Sonitpur Police arrested a notorious inter-State ATM gang of robbers on Wednesday.

TEZPUR: Sonitpur Police arrested a notorious inter-State ATM gang of robbers on Wednesday. The police arrested four members of the gang by acting on a tip-off that they were coming to Tezpur to commit a crime. When police got information that the gang was roaming in the Mission Chariali area, the police started their search operation and noticed that four persons in an Ertiga car were driving slowly and stopping the car near ATM booths in the Mission Chariali area, looking for an easy target. But the police foiled the robbery and nabbed them.

The operation was led by Dr Rashmi Rekha Sarmah, DSP (HQ), and SI, Tilak Teron, IC Kacharigaon PS under supervision of Superintendent of Police of Sonitpur, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta.

Addressing a press conference, Additional Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta said that police had information about the gang and in the operation, four gang members were arrested. Mahatta said that the arrested members were identified as Saurabh Kushwara (23), Ankit Kushwara (25), Siva Mourya (20) and Ashu Mourya (22), all residents of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The police recovered 28 ATM cards, four mobile phones, Rs 40,000 and an Ertiga car bearing number UP78GA7582 from their possession. A case has been registered Tezpur PS 379/420/406/1881/2020 IPC.
