Sonitpur Police, CRPF arrested two NSCN cadres in Tezpur

Two cadres of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM) were arrested in a joint operation by Sonitpur Police and CRPF on Friday night.

TEZPUR: Two cadres of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (IM) were arrested in a joint operation by Sonitpur Police and CRPF on Friday night.

Acting on specific information under the supervision of Superintendent of Police of Sonitpur, Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta, along with Biswanath District Police, CRPF with Army intelligence input arrested two NSCN (IM) cadres at Mission Chariali under Tezpur Police Station and also recovered arms and ammunition.

Numal Mahatta, Additional Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur said that one of the apprehended persons was identified as 32-year-old Khampai Wancho, secretary, Wancho Region, NSCN-IM, son of Ngopha Pongchau from Longding in Arunachal Pradesh, and he admitted that he is a 2016 batch IM-cadre and had undergone arms training at Dimapur, Nagaland. He had carried out organizational work under fake aegis of a company named IMC (International Marketing Corporation), also was a chowkidar in a church at Purana Bazar, Block B, Dimapur.

The other apprehended person was identified as 22-year old Khunghee Mikam, son of Chempong Mikam Pongchau from Longding in Arunachal Pradesh and he is just an accomplice of the NSCN cadre. Both were travelling from Dimapur to Itanagar and got down at Mission Chariali, Tezpur to meet someone with a secret mission. Along with other items, a 7.62 pistol, live ammunition, two mobile phone handsets and Rs 7,000 cash were seized from their possession. Reportedly both the cadres were involved in an ambush against Assam Rifles where several jawans were killed in Nagaland. Further interrogation and investigation is on.
