JAMUGURIHAT: The railway level crossing located to the north of Sootea has been lying in a dilapidated condition since long. The dilapidated railway crossing on the Sootea-Ghiladhari road has created a lot of problems for passers-by.
The road is one of the busiest roads in the northern part of Sootea under Biswanath LAC. It is alleged that the railway level crossing has been ignored by both the railway department and State PWD as well. The level crossing was renovated during the time of railway track up-gradation from meter gauge to broad gauge with very low quality bricks. At the time of the Sootea-Ghiladhari road renovation, the level crossing was ignored and not repaired.
The crossing portion besides the railway track, which was made of block bricks, has turned into a pond more or less. Potholes that appeared in between the two speed breakers on both sides of the level crossing have created a lot of problems for students, pregnant women, serious patients and general people at large. The road is the only means of communication between Sootea and north Sootea. The local people had taken up the issue with local MLA Pramod Borthakur many times. But people have alleged that no action has been taken by the MLA in this regard. The people have appealed to the railway authority and the State PWD to look into the matter as early as possible.
