NAGAON: Nagaon police led by SP Navaneet Mahanta arrested wanted teer mafia Babul Ali alias Ahmed Ali from Nagaon town on Tuesday night while he was taking shelter in a secret place. Police also seized a white colour Grand I20 car bearing registration number AS 02 AJ 0450, five mobile handsets and Rs 67,000 in cash from his possession.
Nagaon police sources said that Babul Ali was absconding for over a month. He is a teer gambler who earns several lakhs of rupees in a day and over 1,000 teer vendors are working under him across the district.
Nagaon police under special initiative as well as supervision of the new SP Navaneet Mahanta, have intensified massive operations against the teer mafia across the district. Around 15 teer bookies as well as teer vendors have been arrested in the last couple of days.
