Special arrangement for nonagenarian voters in Mangaldai

As per the guidelines of the ECI, the district administration of Darrang has also taken up detailed arrangements for the persons with disability (PwD) and the senior citizens above 80 years to cast their ballot in the polls.

MANGALDAI: As per the guidelines of the ECI, the district administration of Darrang has also taken up detailed arrangements for the persons with disability (PwD) and the senior citizens above 80 years to cast their ballot in the polls.

"We have taken up special arrangements for the voters of PwD and above 80 years age category of the district so that they can cast their vote from their home without any fear or pressure," said Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Dilip Kumar Borah while talking to The Sentinel on Monday. He also added that for this purpose, a cell has already been formed taking Additional Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Deka and Assistant Commissioner Monika Borgohain.

Total number of PwD voters in the district is 714 (47 in 65 Kalaigaon, 85 in 66 Sipajhar, 125 in 67 Mangaldai (SC) and 457 in 68 Dalgaon LAC) and the voters above 80 years is 992 ( 64 in 65 Kalaigaon, 255 in 66 Sipajhar, 283 in 67 Mangaldai (SC) and 390 in 68 Dalgaon). According to Assistant Commissioner Monika Borgohain, each of the 30 teams specially arranged for the postal ballot comprises one polling officer, one micro observer, one videographer accompanied by police personnel. It has been expected that this special voting process would be completed by March 25.
