Special Court Grants Bail to Suspended Congress MLA Sherman Ali

A Special Court under certain conditions granted the bail plea of Congress MLA Sherman Ali in the Chief Minister Vigilance cell case

GUWAHATI: A Special Court on Thursday 28 October agreed to the bail plea of suspended Congress MLA Sherman Ali under certain conditions.

The suspended MLA has been granted bail in Chief Minister Vigilance cell case. Sherman Ali is a Politician from India and a member of the Congress party. Ali was elected as an MLA from Bahgbar constituency in the election of 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly as a candidate from All India United Democratic Front.

Earlier on Tuesday, 26 October the Guwahati High Court declined the bail plea of the MLA about the case that was registered against him at the police station of Panbazaar and Geetanagar. Sherman Ali was under the custody of the Chief Ministers Special Vigilance Cell for being associated with MLA fund embezzlement crime. He was arrested by the Vigilance cell for misappropriation and stealing of the money from the MLA fund.

For the hearing of the case, he was presented in front of the Guwahati High court and then sentenced to custody for five days under CM Vigilance cell. But when the Vigilance cell notified the Chief Judicial Magistrate court (CJM) that Sherman Ali is not in need of their custody anymore, he was then sentenced to judicial custody.

Earlier in September, Sherman Ali became controversial because of his controversial statement on 8 of the youths from Assam who were killed brutally at the time of Assam Agitation in February 1983. The statement led him to gain hatred with the occurrence of trouble for him as various organizations filed cases against him for the statement he made. He had to even face suspension from the Congress party for his violation of party norms and discipline numerous times.
