Special cover of Indian Postal Department on Boka saul released at Nalbari

A special cover of the Indian Postal Department was released to dignify Boka saul by the Superintendent of the post office of Nalbari-Barpeta division on Thursday at Nalbari Natyamandir.

NALBARI: A special cover of the Indian Postal Department was released to dignify Boka saul by the Superintendent of the post office of Nalbari-Barpeta division on Thursday at Nalbari Natyamandir.

Boka saul (oryza sativa) is a paddy variety grown in parts of lower Assam. Back in the 17th century, it was the staple food for the Ahom soldiers fighting the Mughal army. Today, it is the staple food for the hundreds of farmers who toil in the fields of Assam every day.

Assistant Superintendent of Barpeta-Nalbari division, Nripen Deka delivered the inaugural speech. Dr Hemanta Baishya, the chief guest of the ceremony, spoke on Boka saul and its food value. A song Dakghar was also released in this ceremony sung by Jesika Kashyap and composed by Dipak Das.
