HAFLONG: The five-day Durga Puja came to an end with the immersion of idols at Diyung River on Wednesday. The organizers of most of the household and community pujas proceeded with the idols for immersion at Diyung River which is 7 km from Haflong. Dima Hasao district administration and the police had instructed that the ritual of immersion should be completed before sunset/5 PM on Wednesday at designated places without fail.
Sufficient police personnel were deployed to monitor the immersion and also to keep vigil so that no untoward incident could take place during the immersion. As many as 20 Durga idols were immersed at Diyung River in presence of officials from Dima Hasao district administration.
The women folk took part in the sindoor khela ritual. They offered sweets and prayers to the goddess while the young swayed merrily to the rhythmic beats of the dhak (drums). People were seen exchanging greetings and sweets on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.
