Sri Sri Auniati Xatra to set up university: Xatradhikar Dr Pitambor Deva Goswami

Sri Sri Auniati Xatra, one of the premier spiritual, cultural and religious institutions of the State, has been ushering in a new flux in promotion of literature and journalism since its establishment.

GAURISAGAR: Sri Sri Auniati Xatra, one of the premier spiritual, cultural and religious institutions of the State, has been ushering in a new flux in promotion of literature and journalism since its establishment.

Its former Xatradhikar (11th), Deva Dutta Dev Goswami had set up a printing press in 1871 named Dharma Prakash Yantra and published three newspapers Assam Bilashini, Assam Dipika and Assam Tara. It also published holy books of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva and Madhabdeva. The Xatra will now establish a university named Auniati University. This was formally announced by Xatradhikar Dr Pitambor Deva Goswami at a press meet held at its Kaliapani Sakha Xatra premises recently.

Addressing the media persons, Dr Goswami said that xatras were public institutions established for the development of people. "History reflects spirituality, value of social education, moral thought, collective and cultural thoughts. Auniati Xatra will establish a university which will give utmost priority to history and modern values. The curriculum of the university will include ancient language, grammar, Vedic education, music, art and craft, astrology and astronomy, performing arts, science and technology, medicine and medical sciences, research work, sports, journalism and other subjects which may not be offered in other universities of the State," he said.

Dr Goswami said that the Vice-Chancellor of Majuli Cultural University, Dr Dambaru Nath had designed the curriculum of the courses. The Xatra has already informed Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarmah regarding the establishment of the university and the Chief Minister has welcomed the Xatra's initiative assured to extend help and cooperation from the government, said Dr Goswami.

Already a detailed project estimate has been submitted to the State Government. On July 26, a discussion was held with State Education Minister Dr Ranuj Pegu and the Xatra's delegates. Very soon a high-level team will arrive at the Xatra premises and inspect the land for the university, said Dr Goswami.

He revealed that the university would be set up completely under private sector. Already, a total of 60 bighas of land had been allotted by Xatra's committee for the proposed university out of its allotted 250 bighas of land. A trust has been formed with Dr Pitambor Deva Goswami, Deka Xatradhikar Deva Nonda Deva Goswami and Bormajindar named Auniati Education and Socio-Culture Development Trust.
