SSB seizes illegal timber logs and boulders in Chirang district

Based on specific input about timber smuggling at Koraibari forest area

KOKRAJHAR: Based on specific input about timber smuggling at Koraibari forest area, the 6th Bn SSB stationed at Ranighuli and Forest Range office, Ranikhata of Chirang district on Wednesday conducted a search operation and arrested one Abraham Narzary (22) of Reshmiguri under Runikhata PS of Chirang district.

The joint team also recovered two Tata pick-up vehicles loaded with smuggled wood timber, two bicycles and other materials. The seized timber logs are worth around Rs. 20,45,000 in the market. The timber smuggler was handed over to Range Office, Runikhata Range.

In another search operation, the 6 Bn SSB arrested Dilip Das (59) of Bhatibari, Alipurduwar district of West Bengal and Pranesh Basumatary (33) of Sishubari, Kwila Mwila of Chirang along with illegal boulders worth Rs. 30,30,600.00. Sources said both the accused were coming with a dumper loaded with boulders from the border side with Bhutan.

The dumper was stopped and it was found that the boulders were being transported illegally. The SSB personnel seized the dumper loaded with boulders. Both the accused were later handed over to Amteka Range office, Kwila Mwila.
