MORIGAON: State Environment & Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary reopened the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary for tourists at the elephant-riding point inside the wildlife sanctuary on Friday.
Chandra Mohan Patowary along with Piyush Hazarika inaugurated an eco friendly bamboo barrack for the mahuts and forest guards at Pobitora Wild Life Sanctuary on Friday. The barracks were constructed by the Prabhakar Barua Trust and funded by Gerda Henkel Stitflung of Germany. Swapnanil Barua represented the Trust in the meeting. The PBMT has been working in the Pobitora Mayong area and has constructed 6 wells in Chanaka and donated two wooden boats to the Morigao district administration as a part of this project. It annually donates clothes and equipment for the staff of the sanctuary every year to commemorate the memory of Prabhakar Barua , the first Assamese CCF, who took steps to declare the Pobitora PGR as a reserve.
Earlier, minister Patowary was welcomed by State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, Chief Conservator of Forest C Ramesh, District Commissioner Devashis Sarma, SP Hemanta Kr. Das, and other dignitaries. A meeting was also held.
