KOKRAJHAR: The State Handloom Expo 2022-23 got underway at Kokrajhar's Rajhmela field, BTR, with a 14-day long programme. Organized by the Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers & Artisans Cooperative Federation Ltd. (BRAWFED) in association with the Development Commissioner, Handloom, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India under market promotion programme for handloom sponsored by the Government of India, the expo aims to facilitate and make local weavers aware through various programmes and also to facilitate the consumer to purchase genuine handloom fabrics woven by local artisans.
Lawrence Islary, MLA of Kokrajhar (East), attended the programme as chief guest and inaugurated the expo, in presence of other dignitaries. MLA Lawrence Islary said in his speech, "We have to develop on all sides and we need to capture the market by producing good products." He said that the State and as well as BTC government had been giving importance on artisans or local weavers.
Dhannajay Basumatary, EM Handloom & Textiles, said that under the leadership of Pramod Boro, BTC CEM, all-round development had been taking in various sectors. He urged people to visits the State Handloom Expo. Over 60 participants from Kokrajhar, Baksa, Tamulpur, Chirang, Udalguri, Dhemaji, Sibsagar, Lakimpur, Tezpur, Boko, Guwahati, and other states like Haryana, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are participating in the expo with various hand-made products.
Besides the regular stalls, a customer assistance centre has also been set up for market survey and analysis of demands, needs and preference of buyers of Kokrajhar. Musical nights, fashion show on Indian and Bodoland handloom woven fabrics, quiz competition, fashion show etc will be organized during the 14-day events.
