Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday asserted that the funds allocated by the Centre to the state of Assam are not being utilized properly.
He said this during an event, where, he indirectly took a dig against the state bureaucracy.
The Chief Minister said that the funds allocated to the state by the center under various schemes have not been fully utilized due to the "apathy of officials" in the state.
He cited the reluctance of employees to work hard as one of the reasons behind this issue.
"On many occasions in the past, funds received from the central government for implementation of development schemes could not be fully utilized for the apathy of officials engaged in the works here," the CM added.
At the event, Sarma also distributed appointment letters to 546 new appointees inducted into government departments.
Sarma also appealed to the new appointees to bring about a new work culture into the government machinery.
Notably, Himanta has also taken a tough stance against any form of corruption in the government machinery and has vowed to take strict action against officials found guilty of engaging in corrupt practices.
