HAFLONG: Concerned about the casualties and road accidents in the district, the Haflong Thunders, on behalf of the Royal Enfield Riders’ Club of Dima Hasao, submitted a memorandum to the Dima Hasao District Commissioner on Thursday.

Stating that reckless driving, as well as usage of mobile phone while driving, has been observed among riders and drivers, they said that this not only puts at risk the lives of the drivers and riders but other people on the road as well. The Royal Enfield Riders’ Club members said that such acts were highly alarming.

On learning through social media about a meeting recently convened at the District Commissioner’s office with the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) under the chairmanship of the District Commissioner for road safety and installation of surveillance cameras at NH-27, the Royal Enfield Riders’ Club of Dima Hasao highly appreciated this step.

Further, they proposed the authority concerned for installation of surveillance cameras in and around Haflong town as well, especially from Mahadev Tilla to Lower Haflong, which will not only help in preventing dangerous driving but also curb other criminal activities.

Considering the gravity of the matter, they requested the district administration for adoption of safety measures by initiating the installation of surveillance cameras at the mentioned route at the earliest as the festive season is arriving soon and as seen in the past, many accidents take place during the festive season.
