DHUBRI: Conscious people of Dhubri and Gauripur along with family members of the Gauripur royal family, expressed resentment against encroachment and illegal construction. They addressed a press meet to appraise the people across the State at Dhubri Lions Club Service Centre auditorium on Friday.
Addressing the media persons, grand-daughter of cine doyen Pramathesh Chandra Barua, Mousumi Barua Roy spoke at a length on illegal activities, including construction and encroachment of land of Maa Mahamaya Temple in Gauripur. She also alleged and appraised the media persons that without demarcating the land of the Maa Mahamaya temple, roads were being constructed on hand while clandestine encroachment was going on on the other hand.
"When we pleaded in writing against all these illegal activities, the officials concerned turned a deaf ear and allowed the construction to continue," Roy added.
She said that people wanted development in and around the Maa Mahamaya Temple and proper utilization of fund amounting to Rs 3 crore under Asom Darshan scheme of the State Government. She also appealed to the media persons of Dhubri and Gauripur to cover the encroachment of Mahamaya Temple approach road and other lands, alleged inactivity of the Revenue Circle Office and delay in clearing land encroachment, to dissolve the adhoc committee of Maa Mahamaya Temple with immediate effect and to form a new management committee and also create new posts in the committee.
