DHUBRI: Storm accompanied by torrential rain since the last few days has left a trail of devastation all around in Dhubri district.

Several thatched and CI sheet roofed houses in the sar areas and areas along the banks of the River Brahmaputra were uprooted in the storm. Besides, electric poles were also uprooted leading to complete load shedding in Dhubri district on Wednesday.

However, responding quickly, a team of APDCL repaired and restored power by Wednesday night. When contacted, Dhubri Additional Deputy Commissioner Manas Kumar Saikia told this scribe that altogether 12 electric poles were uprooted and electric lines were damaged, which were subsequently repaired and power restored by late night on Wednesday.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri Subdivisional Officer of APDCL, Rakesh Saha informed that the major works of grid upgradation were only started on May 17 which had to be completed on May 26, but storm and incessant rain on the night of May 17 disrupted power due to uprooting electric poles at several places. "However, we are planning a fresh to go for grid upgradation at Gauripur power station soon," Saha further informed.
