Street play staged on tuberculosis by District Health Society, NTEP, Sonitpur

A street play on tuberculosis (TB) was organized by District Health Society, NTEP, Sonitpur in association with Bhoomi, a socio-cultural organization at five different places in Greater Tezpur town.

TEZPUR: A street play on tuberculosis (TB) was organized by District Health Society, NTEP, Sonitpur in association with Bhoomi, a socio-cultural organization at five different places in Greater Tezpur town. The programme aims to increase awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and ways to curb its instances and related mortality and morbidity by 2025. The programme was conducted by Abhijit Lahkar, Senior Treatment Supervisor (STS), and Joydeep Roy, District PPM Coordinator, Sonitpur.

The street play was directed and playwright by journalist and cultural activist Dip Kumar Kalita and artistes included Dristi Bharali, Sarjina Begum, Jagriti Sarma, Jagriti Kaundinya, and Debarghya Kalita.

Attending the programme, Prantik Orang, District PMDT cum TB-HIV Coordinator Sonitpur said, "TB has a social stigma and is a potential threat to everyone. Earlier talking care of TB patients was the sole responsibility of the family. That notion now, however, has changed and it is now a social responsibility. We need to come forward as a unit to develop strategies that effectively address the impediments in the management of the disease."
