TINSUKIA: A review meeting of the District Level Committee under the National Narcotics Coordination Portal (NCORD) was held on Thursday with Swapneel Paul, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, in the chair.
The meeting discussed various measures to be taken to curb drug abuse and trafficking in Tinsukia district. The DC asked the officials concerned, particularly the police, to furnish the steps taken to curb the smuggling of drugs and other narcotic substances. He also laid importance on the government and private drug rehabilitation centres operating in the district and emphasized improving the quality of the centres. Further, the DC stressed creating awareness about the ill effects of drugs and other narcotic substances at school and college levels involving youth and their parents. Paul also stressed on the formation of ‘Prahari’ and other clubs in all schools and colleges.
The meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav, ADCs SarfrazHaque and Monjit Borkakoti, Assistant Commissioner and District Social Welfare Officer i/c Niluram Sarma and other officials and employees of education, health, agriculture, excise and forest departments.
