Stress laid on women empowerment; programme organized near Doomdooma

TINSUKIA: The ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), a development wing of Salesians of Don Bosco of Dimapur Province, organized an awareness programme among the women of Bokpara Ranchi Line near Doomdooma on Sunday. As International Women's Day happened to be a working day this year with women workers of the tea garden indisposed, the day was celebrated on Sunday at the convenience of women of the locality to encourage everyone and to bring meaningful participation.

Rishma Urang, the president of the Doomdooma Regional Committee of All Adivasi Women Power of Assam (AAWPA), Augustus Kujur, the Project Manager of AIDA, Subod Kujur, the Project Officer of AIDA, Rt. Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria, the rector of Doomdooma Catholic Church and Ignatius Ekka, a lawyer and social worker, addressed the gathering as invited guests. The speakers laid stress on various aspects of women empowerment.

Augustus Kujur, the Project Manager, AIDA, Dimapur, deliberated on the rights of women embodied in our Constitution for their protection. He also encouraged the women to make their voices as their weapon against any atrocities and exploitation. Various competitions such as running race, obstacle race, magical chair and tug-of-war were also organized among the women and the winners were awarded with prizes.

AIDA has been implementing education programmes in 31 tea gardens of Assam. The programme not only envisages to bring quality education among children but also to build proactive communities towards education of their children through various workshops and events.
