Strong opposition to Central Government's privatization move, protest staged in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The power sector employees, engineers and pensioners of Lakhimpur district on Tuesday staged a protest against privatization policies of the Central government. The two-hour-long protest rally was initiated in front of the North Lakhimpur Electrical Circle office under the auspices of the North Lakhimpur Zone National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers and Pensioners (NCCOEEEP) as per the clarion call of its central committee along with Lakhimpur Circle Committee of Assam State Outsourced Power Workers' Union.

By staging the protest programme, the organization demanded the government to stop the outsourcing process of the electricity sub-stations, feeders, control rooms etc. to regularize the job of temporary employees (outsourced) of the Power Sector and to appoint new employees, to withdraw the decision to privatize profit-making power departments of Union Territories, to scrap the New Pension Plan and to implement the Old Pension Plan etc.

The protesters shouted various slogans in support of the demands. Lakhimpur Zone National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees, Engineers and Pensioners chief convener Kamal Hasan, joint conveners Dandidhar Borgohain and Chandan Bhuyan informed that the organization submitted separate memoranda to the chairmen of APDCL, AEGCL and APGCL after the protest rally.
