BONGAIGAON: A massive scam of student scholarship came to light on Friday in Abhayapuri of Bongaigaon district when police conducted raid in a cyber cafe of Abhayapuri. Three persons from the cafe were arrested.
According to sources, this scam of student scholarship was going since the last three years. As per sources, it is alleged that this internet cafe named 'N M Service Point and Internet Café' had links with few staff of Abhayeswari Higher Secondary and Bahumukhi School. "The scholarship application in this school was only accepted when it was filled up from this cafe. This cafe takes Rs 500 for filling up of one form while in other cafes it costs only Rs 70 to Rs 80," said a source.
The matter came into notice on Thursday when few students of the school complained to the Principal about the cafe. The Principal immediately called a meeting and lodged police complaint. On Friday, police conducted raid and arrested three persons -Mokibul Islam, Ashraful Islam and Nur Muhammad. A source said that the cafe was using user ID and password of the school. Police also seized several laptops and other documents from the cafe. AASU Abhayapuri unit has demanded punishment to the culprits. They said that school staff must be involved in the scam and demanded a thorough investigation.
