Students' body stages protest against non-fulfilment of demands in Tinsukia

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Regional Students' Union (TRSU) staged a two-hour sit-in in front of its office near Tinsukia College on Thursday to register its protest against non-fulfilment of various issues pertaining to Tinsukia town and adjoining areas and later submitted a memorandum to the Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner highlighting 13-point charter of demands.

The issues included repair of deplorable roads, scientific management to check artificial flood, illegal construction and engagement of suspected immigrant labourers, traffic congestion and parking of vehicles, repair and installation of street lights, installation of CCTV cameras in important and vulnerable points, and use of Assamese hoardings by commercial establishments.

Satyajit Borgohain, advisor of TRSU, Sanju Gohain of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Udip Borpatra and Nayan Jyoti Bezbaruah, president and secretary of TRSU respectively, addressed the protesters. The speakers strongly criticized the local MLA and minister Sanjoy Kishan for his failure to carry forward developmental works of Tinsukia.
