Guwahati: Students of Assam University have started a
social media campaign protesting against the offline examination by the university.
Earlier on April 06 this year the university started conducting offline examinations for UG courses. But that time students have demanded to conduct the exam online but after many teachers and students got infected with Covid -19 the university had to stop the exams in the midway.
Now after almost six months, the university again started conducting offline examinations from Thursday following which a section of students has begun online protest using social media.
Offline classes in all the undergraduate colleges under Assam University started on September 6 following an SOP issued by the Government of Assam. On September 7, the University announced that it will conduct the final (6th) semester examinations of the three-year degree courses (CBCS) from September 24 onwards.
Controller of Examinations, Assam University Silchar, Dr. Suprabir Dutta Roy said they have taken the decision following the SOP which was issued by the government of Assam.
He informed that students of 61 degree colleges affiliated to Assam University will sit for the examination in 35 centres.
"The examination will be conducted in offline mode where we will follow the protocols issued by the Government of Assam in its latest standard operating procedure. We have already discussed with the college authorities before announcing the schedule", he said.
A section of students have expressed their displeasure and started a protest on social media including on Twitter giving hashtag #justiceforassamuniversitystudents. Some have written their reason behind the displeasure against Assam University.
