SIVASAGAR: In a heartwarming display of empowerment, Subhana Hazarika, a dedicated and driven women entrepreneur from Nazira in Sivasagar district, organised a free pickle-making workshop that drew over 90 enthusiastic women participants from various regions of Assam, including Nazira, Tezpur, and Charaideo. The event was a resounding success, equipping women with valuable skills in pickle making, preservation, and waste management.
The day was set against the backdrop of Assam’s serene landscapes, where forests and gardens yield an abundance of natural resources, notably elephant apples and lemons. Subhana Hazarika, a keen entrepreneur with a deep commitment to her community, recognised the potential for economic growth and self-reliance that lay within these fruits. She has developed a Leena Processing Unit, where she produces various products from locally available fruits and vegetables.
Hazarika’s vision culminated in the workshop, a hands-on experience that not only brought women together from various areas but also empowered them with skills that would strengthen their economic foundation. The day was nothing short of a transformational journey, where participants learned the art of pickle making, preservation techniques, and the importance of sustainable waste management through making candies from peels and reusing the plastics for the cultivation of young plants.
