LAKHIMPUR: Bharat Ratna, Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika was commemorated across Lakhimpur district on his death anniversary on Saturday.
In this connection, various organizations, cultural and academic institutions of the district organized Shradhanjali programmes in a befitting manner to pay rich tribute to the bard. The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) organized a commemorative programme, titled as Manuhe Manuhar Babe... in front of the Adarsha Bazaar premises. The event was held under management of Lakhimpur district AAUA president Binod Das and general secretary Bhupen Sonowal. It was inaugurated by Circle Officer of North Lakhimpur Revenue Circle, Minakshi Permey. AAUA central committee general secretary Jiban Rajkhowa, retired professor Naren Sarmah, social activist Sajad Hazarika, cultural activist Chandra Borah, retired State Bank of India manager Kulanath Bhorali delivered speech on the life and works of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. In the same programme, which was open for all, over 30 singers paid homage to the music maestro by singing songs composed by the bard.
On the other hand, the Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) organized a shradhanjali programme at the playground of North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School. The AASU members lit earthen lamps and paid floral tribute to the portrait of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. AASU central committee chief organizing secretary Pulok Borah, executive member Dhanmoni Dutta, Lakhimpur president Simanta Neog, general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi were among those who were present in the programme.
